Watch: 16-Year-Old Covers Soundgarden’s “Black Hole Sun” on American Idol, Absolutely Nails It

Last we checked in with American Idol contestant Casey Bishop, the young star performed an Incubus song with the band’s frontman, Brandon Boyd, to widespread praise not only from the rock world, but from the show’s judges, Luke Bryan, Lionel Richie and Katy Perry. The 16-year-old kept the fire burning on the show’s latest episode, tackling Soundgarden’s “Black Hole Sun” and absolutely nailing it.

A quick aside: it’s fantastic to see a rock singer make it this far on a show traditionally focused on pop and country. And it’s a treat to hear it coming from someone so young! Bishop, at the time just 15, even performed an a cappella version of Mötley Crüe’s “Live Wire” for her American Idol audition.

Bishop is quite the talented young singer, and her pipes on this cover would make Chris Cornell proud, no doubt. You can watch the performance below. Rooting for Bishop to make it all the way!
