On Monday night, after a year of denying the seriousness of the COVID-19 pandemic, calling it a “scam” and “not a real pandemic,” Ted Nugent revealed to the world that he himself has contracted the virus…
…and the world laughed.
Even former Skid Row singer Sebastian Bach, who appeared alongside Nugent on the VH1 reality show Supergroup in 2006, slammed the guitarist. Referencing the fact that Rage Against the Machine’s ultra-liberal Tom Morello is apparently buddies with the infamous conservative, Baz said:
But if you think Mr. All-American Big Nuts Hairy Chest Ted Nugent is just gonna sit idly by while people on the Internet make fun of him for being a colossal asshole, well, think again, you pinko snowflake cuck.
Nugent went on Facebook Live yesterday (April 20) to defend himself by taking a page out of his pal Donnie Trump’s playbook: he just gaslit the shit out of everyone.
“The lies I’ve seen that I’ve been doing these public appearances knowing I had the COVID-19. False. Saying that I claimed COVID-19 was a hoax. False. I’ve always said… We have actually footage of me saying, if not hundreds, thousands of times… Of course there’s a Chinese virus. Hello? Who thinks that I claimed there’s no Chinese… There’s a Chinese virus. They call it COVID-19. I’m well aware of that.”
Ignoring for a moment the fact that Nugent says he’s not racist but keeps calling COVID-19 “the Chinese virus,” the guitarist’s entire argument rides on a total denial of reality. For one thing, he did call the pandemic a “scam,” a word which is synonymous with “hoax.” For another thing, he said it’s “not a real pandemic,” which implies that it’s a hoax. Either way, denying he ever said COVID-19 was a hoax is disingenuous, to put it kindly.
Funnier still is that Nugent went on to try and explain away another one of his recent acts of dumfuckery — specifically, asking “Why weren’t we shut down for COVID-1 through -18?”. He did this by insisting he meant COVIDs 1-18 in a metaphorical sense, and questioning why there were no governmental shutdowns for…
- The Ebola pandemic, which never got out of West Africa.
- The Black Death, which occurred during the 14th century.
- AIDS, which cannot be spread just by standing in the general vicinity of someone afflicted with the disease.
- The 1918 influenza epidemic, which he refers to as “The Spanish Flu,” almost certainly in order to create a direct connection in people’s minds between infection and otherness (“The Spanish Flu,” “The Chinese Virus,” etc.).
He also took time to remind the world that he found Richard Pryor funny, which I guess is supposed to make us all forget how many times this guy has dropped the n-bomb.
“You know, comfortably numb is actually uncomfortably dumb, because when I said, ‘What about COVID-1 through 18?’, they missed the whole point. I know there was not a COVID-1 through 18, but there were past COVIDs prior to COVID-19 that nobody ever shut down any mom-and-pop businesses, never encouraged the economic destruction of the entrepreneur engine that drives America. So I was merely commenting that prior to COVID-19, nobody ever shut down anything — not for Ebola [virus], not for the Spanish Flu, not for AIDS, not for the Black Plague. But they’re doing it for COVID-19. So I was referencing those past epidemics-slash-pandemics as maybe a generalization of COVID-1 through -18.
“You stupid motherfuckers. The left is such a great source of comedy. Keep it up. Richard Pryor isn’t around anymore. We can’t rely on him for the ultimate comedy, so we rely on the comfortably numb nuts, uncomfortably dumb nuts.”
A kettle then turned to Nugent and said, “Uh… Pot? You’re black.”
