Grammy-winning singer/songwriter Joelle James, known for co-penning Ella Mai’s breakout hit “Boo’d Up,” has tapped out from love on her new song “Heart Can’t Take It.”
The mending track speaks to a once-strong relationship that is no longer able to be saved from ending. With a joyless piano and a kick drum underneath James’ blue voice, she ponders at turning back the hands of time to be freed from unhappiness caused by this love.
“The song is dedicated to anyone who has ever experienced pain so deep that you wish life was in reverse,” said James on Instagram about the inspiration behind the track.
“Heart Can’t Take It” is lifted from James’ upcoming album I Scream, slated for release sometime later this year. It follows her 2020 two-pack single “Where in the World / 2020 Vision.”
