There is more to a woman than meets the eye. Syleena Johnson illustrates that musically in the deluxe edition of last year’s Woman album.
The new version of her first album under her Entertainment One Nashville recording contract features an updated intro and two new songs. One of them is the baggage-lifted “Never Been Better,” which she released ahead of The Making of a Woman.
“Water” is the second brand new offering and a heavyhearted tune where she feels like a once-lasting relationship is now slipping away from her grasp.
“Look me in the eyes, do you still love me? / Can you see the girl that you fell in love with? / How did we get here? Baby, talk to me / Is there someone else? / Just say it, I can handle it,” she sings.
The Making of a Woman includes many of the songs from the standard edition, including the Q. Parker-assisted “Home,” the acapella “Freelance Lover,” and the blues-fired title track.
Tonight (April 25), Johnson’s hour-long Unsung episode airs on TV One at 9 p.m. EST.
