Shelley FKA DRAM is keeping it in the Love Renaissance (LVRN) family. On his addicting new track, “All Pride Aside,” lifted from his upcoming self-titled sophomore album, the fun-loving performer enlists fellow LVRN affiliate Summer Walker.
The two singers gel their lushly distinct voices together to explain the complexity of a relationship built on compromise and enablement.
In talking to Zane Lowe of Apple Music about the record, Shelley said he and Walker laying down a track together was “inevitable.” He went on to say that, “I feel like it’s a clear example of the growth and just where I’m at all in one track.”
“All Pride Aside” is the opening song on his upcoming album, due out this Thursday (April 29), via EMPIRE / Atlantic Records. The LP was initially set to debut on April 16, but Shelley postponed the date to coincide with his late mother’s birthday.
Earlier this week, Shelley christened NPR Music’s Tiny Desk (Home) Concert stage for the second time. He performed all-new songs from the follow-up to 2016’s Big Baby DRAM, including “The Lay Down” and “Exposure.”
