When Primus initially announced their Rush tribute tour, scheduled for spring 2020, it was ostensibly to pay homage to late drummer Neil Peart (who died earlier that year from brain cancer). The gigantic summer tour would see the band play two sets every night: one of originals, and one consisting of them covering Rush’s 1977 classic, A Farewell to Kings, in its entirety.
2020 had other plans, of course. And while the sting of Peart’s death may have worn off some since then, it’s not as if his absence is any less great, especially since neither Rush or Primus fans ever got to properly blow off steam with some live jams in his honor.
And it’s with that backdrop that Primus have finally announced the rescheduled dates for that Rush tribute tour, again with support from Wolfmother and The Sword. A few dates have been dropped due to Covid-19-related issues (cross-border travel to Canada isn’t possible right now, for example), but the routing is mostly the same.
Primus frontman Les Claypool comments:
“Finally, the clouds are parting, the planets are aligning, the dough is rising…whatever metaphor floats your preverbal boat, Primus is going on tour again. We were poised and ready for a massive, bent-rock extravaganza when the gremlins of Covid came and yanked the rug out from under us all. I personally have been climbing the walls like a shit-house rat and, after my first season off in 30 some odd years, I’m very anxious and excited to stand in front of the microphone with my four string piece of furniture and belt out some girthy ditties to sweaty throngs of punters.”
