Front + Center artist Dixson has released a new video for his India Shawn-featured song “Yours” from his most recent EP DARLING.
The visual was directed by Michelle Parker and illustrates an old-school romantic connection between Dixson and Shawn. It begins with Shawn playing at-home beautician for Dixson and his superfly twists, sharing laughs with him in between.
The two didn’t get to that point of the video right away. Shawn turned down a few other suitors before the man (a.k.a. Dixson) she desired knocked at her apartment door.
In a recent interview with Rated R&B, Dixson shared the story behind the track and why he chose to invite Shawn to be his duet partner.
“When I thought about those things that I’ve heard during sex, I thought about how much of that I’ve said back and how much of it I didn’t say back. One of those things that I landed on was that, it’s not uncommon that a guy might hear, ‘This body is yours’ or whatever parts are yours.
So I started writing the song from the perspective of me being willing to say that to my partner as a man,” explained Dixson about the song’s inspiration.
He added, “I always knew I wanted a female vocalist on the record, and India is one of my close friends. She pulled up to the studio, and the verse that she penned is just so on time for where we are. I love that she likened her body to a temple. I think the song is respectful while also being a little nasty, which is cool. It’s a good balance.”
Dixson’s new song “Kream” is bubbling on R&B radio and the Billboard Adult R&B Airplay chart. It stands at No. 21 on the last chart after six weeks.
