Desduné, the son of award-winning actress/director Regina King, takes a funkadelic approach on his debut single “Work It Out.”
The track holds tight to the nostalgic favoring of the ’70s disco and funk era, ingrained in lazing and wobbly live instrumentation. The song’s subject is a man pleading to be in a romantic space of a woman who wants to explore her options.
When asked about the new song, Desduné tells Rated R&B is only gunning to make icon Prince proud. “I don’t care about the money. I just wanna make the next Purple Rain, this was a good first stab at it.”
“Work It Out” is the first release from Desduné’s forthcoming project, Clementine, due on Buttercreem Records later this year.
