Obsidious (Ex-Obscura) Debut First Single “Iconic”

A little over a year ago, three-fourths of Obscura’s then-current-line-up — specifically,  guitarist Rafael Trujillo, bassist Linus Klausenitzer, and drummer Sebastian Lanser — all quit to go form their own band. Which they’ve called Obsidious, lest anyone mistake them for Obscura.

We now have our first chance to hear Obsidious — now joined by vocalist Liam Hand (Silent Torture) — thanks to “Iconic,” their debut single. And it’s really good! Maybe I shouldn’t be so surprised, but given Obscura mastermind Steffen Kummerer’s whole “I’m the boss and I don’t compromise” vibe, you’d think this was gonna be noticeably subpar by Obscura standards. It’s not at all. It’s got Obscura’s whole tech-death thing going on, but it also has its share of operatic power metal-style clean vocals. I think people are gonna dig it a bunch.

Says the band of the track:

“We are beyond excited to finally share our first song ‘Iconic’, with the world! This release is the true beginning of our journey as Obsidious that started 14 months ago. As the first-ever song we wrote with Obsidious, ‘Iconic’ is all about our mission to push the boundaries of metal music while showcasing all the different aspects and nuances representing us as a group. We pour our hearts and minds into this band to leave our mark with the wonderful global modern metal community.”

Check it out below. Obsidious’ debut album should be out in early 2022.
