DaBaby Protégé Wisdom Arrested for Attempted Murder

A rapper signed to DaBaby’s Billion Dollar Baby Entertainment label has been charged in a Miami Beach shooting.

Wisdom Awute, 21, who goes by the name Wisdom, was one of two men arrested in the Memorial Day shooting outside a popular South Beach restaurant that wounded two people, police said. The other man arrested was Christopher Urena, 29.

Awute, who allegedly shot someone in the leg, and Urena were arrested on charges of attempted first-degree murder and aggravated assault with a firearm. Urena is facing additional counts, including third-degree grand theft and weapons possession.

“In less than 24 hours, Miami Beach detectives were able to ensure those responsible for the shooting were arrested and charged,” said Ernesto Rodriguez, Miami Beach police spokesman. “We will now work closely with the State Attorney’s Office to ensure a successful prosecution.”

DaBaby was “one of the many individuals” interviewed by police before being released hours later. He has not been charged, police and his attorney said.

Gunfire erupted near the Prime 112 steakhouse following an argument between two groups. Police arrived at the scene to find two people who had been shot—one in the leg, the other in the shoulder. One victim remained in critical condition Tuesday while the other was released from the hospital.

According to a police report, obtained by the Miami Herald, two men were trying to get in their car around 11:20 p.m. Monday in front of the restaurant when they got in a fight with “a famous musical entourage.” That’s when Awute allegedly pulled out a gun and shot one of the two men in the right calf. The victim identified Awute as the shooter. Urena was apprehended after he allegedly fled the scene in a Black Chrysler 300.

Wisdom is part of DaBaby’s Billion Dollar Baby Entertainment roster, which also includes Stunna 4 Vegas, KayyKilo, and Rich Dunk. Last month, the Charlotte rapper released his single “Sum’n.”
