Dave Grohl’s Foo Fighters have been slammed by Richard Fairbrass, singer for the band Right Said Fred, over their decision to play a 100% capacity show at Madison Square Garden later this month… but only for a vaccinated audience.
The show will be the first full-capacity concert in New York City since early March of 2020. According to the venue’s website, entry to the performance — and all upcoming events at MSG — will require proof of vaccination (14 days after the final dose) to enter. Children under 16 years of age may provide proof of a negative antigen Covid-19 test (rapid test) or negative PCR test to enter. Guests will need to provide proof of vaccination (or negative test result for children) upon entering the venue, either by presenting a physical copy or using the New York State Excelsior Pass phone app. No face coverings will be required once inside the venue.
The 67-year-old Fairbass has previously called the COVID-19 vaccine a “scam” which he himself will not have administered.
The PRP reports that when a fan on Twitter expressed disappoint over the Foo Fighters’ decision to incentivize fans to get vaccinated, Fairbass replied:
“Music is meant to build bridges, not destroy them.”
Although younger readers might not remember Right Said Fred, in 1991 they scored a smash hit with the song “I’m Too Sexy,” which scored a #1 spot on the charters in 32 countries worldwide. It remains the group’s only significant success.
