Butterfly Ali Shares Debut EP ‘Preacher’s Kid’

Titus Makin Jr. — better known as Butterfly Ali — has released his debut EP Preacher’s Kid.

This genre-jumping effort contains five tracks fitted for his animated voice and choice of fluid and towering funk sounds; some of those songs include the lead single “Pray For ‘Em” and “Truth Is.”

On the track, named after his moniker, he salutes one of Muhammed Ali’s famous lines and sizes up the timeless vocal thrills of the icon Prince.

“It’s been a long time coming, and a lot of soul searching to find my voice,” shared Ali about the excitement to release his debut project. “I had to figure out what was important to me to sing about. I came up with this EP title by truly trying to find a description for who I am and my body of work. The best name I could come up with is exactly the truth of who I am, a preacher’s kid.”

He continued, “I was raised in the church and brought up with so many wonderful morals/lessons of love from my father, who has been a preacher the majority of my life. I felt if I was going to be making a project about my life and who I am, I can’t leave out the people who helped shape me into who I am… my father & mother.”

Preacher’s Kid features writing and production contributions from Sam Barsh (Ledisi, Macy Gray), Brian Kops, The Fund, Gabriel Benjamin, and Aaron Kellim
