Video Premiere: Alustrium “This Hollow Ache” Guitar Playthrough Video

We’ve been singing the praises of progressive death metal troupe Alustrium for months — nay, years! — here on MetalSucks, and today we’re pleased as punch to premiere a guitar playthrough video of the band’s recently-released single, “This Hollow Ache.”

The clip sees Alustrium co-guitarists Mike DeMaria and Chris Kelly tear through the nearly seven-minute track and provides a close-up look at what these two masters of their craft are playing. Sometimes what seems simple on the surface is anything but — despite Alustrium’s unwavering focus on songs instead of tech for tech’s sake — and that is most certainly the case here, the “behind the curtain” look revealing a whole lot more than initially meets the ear.

Explains DeMaria:

“‘This Hollow Ache’ is the first single and opening track of our upcoming record, and we thought it would be fun to do a guitar playthrough since it’s one of our busier guitar-heavy songs. ‘Ache’ kicks the lyrical concept off and includes a lot of the musical elements that can be expected throughout the rest of the record, so we hope this serves as a good first impression for those unfamiliar with us.”

Watch below. A Monument To Silence comes out June 18 on Unique Leader; pre-order here. Be sure to listen to the other singles from the album so far, “Join the Dead” and “Deliverance for the Damned.”
