Ricky Montgomery has shared his first new solo music in five years with his latest single, “Talk To You.”
The track serves as a heartfelt examination of self-sabotaging behavior as well as a reflection on the 10th anniversary of the death of his father.

While the singer used this personal experience as inspiration for the track, it also speaks to a larger feeling many people go through in their life. Self-sabotaging behavior can cause you to become isolated from friends and family, and Montgomery hopes to shed light on this topic in “Talk To You.”

Known for emotionally resonant songs ranging everywhere from pop-rock anthems to melancholic ballads, Montgomery stays sonically consistent with his mellow works in “Talk To You.” His smooth voice coalesces with the synth-infused instrumentals to emphasize the track’s emotional meaning.

The visual for “Talk To You” is heavily inspired by the story of Frankenstein. With a black-and-white aesthetic, we follow Montgomery as he digs up a grave before reviving the body. Much like the original story of Frankenstein bringing his monster to life, Montgomery’s actions have consequences in the video.
He tries to spend time with his creation and do normal things, such as playing baseball and going to the movies. However, it quickly becomes obvious that his creation isn’t a normal human, especially when its entire arm falls off.

“Talk To You” marks the first new original song from Montgomery as a solo artist since his 2016 debut album, Montgomery Ricky. Earlier this year, however, he joined forces with AltPress digital cover star chloe moriondo to remix his viral hit “Mr Loveman.” Another of Montgomery’s viral songs, “Line Without A Hook,” got the remix treatment this year as well, with mxmtoon joining him on the song.
Along with his solo music, Montgomery fronts successful indie band the Honeysticks. Sonically similar to his solo work, the Honeysticks make the perfect combination of chill and romantic music. They released their debut single, “Out Like A Light,” in 2017 and most recently shared “Cars” in 2020.
“Talk To You” lyrics
Been a pretty long time
Been a pretty long time
Since you saw me last
Since I saw you last
Wonder if we met today
Would it all end up the same
Would you take me for a ride
Would you toss me to the side
I wish I could talk to you
Put my chair right up there next to you
And talk to you
Oh baby
I wish I could talk to you
Pull my chair right up there next to you
And talk to you
You’re in my head more often than I want
More often than I want to tell you
You’re in my head more often than I want
More often than I want
Been a pretty long time
Been a really long time
Since you saw me last
Since I saw you last
Wonder if we met today
Would you turn and walk away
Would you take me for a ride
Would you toss me to the side
I wish I could talk to you
Pull my chair right up there next to you
And talk to you
Oh baby
I wish I could talk to you
Pull my chair right up there next to you
And talk to you
You’re in my head more often than I want
More often than I want to tell you
You’re in my head more often than I want
More often than I want
You’re in my head more often than I want
More often than I want
You’re in my head more often than I want
More often than I want
I wish I could talk to you
I wish I could talk to you
I wish I could talk to you
I wish I could talk to you
I wish I could talk to you
I wish I could talk to you
I wish I could talk to you
I wish I could talk to you
I wish I could talk to you
I wish I could talk to you
I wish I could talk to you
I wish I could talk to you
