Andra Day and Janelle Monáe have contributed new songs to Netflix’s upcoming animated musical series, We The People.
The 2021 Best Actress Golden Globe winner reunites with Warren “Oak” Felder for “All Rise,” an empowering selection that calls for justice and equality for all. Day reminds young people to stand their ground for what is right until a positive change happens for people everywhere.
On “Stronger,” a fist-pumping tune, Monáe finds herself leaning on the resilience of her friends to pick herself back up to carry on in the fight against social adversities. She sings that she and her legion of freedom fighters don’t “want the life without the liberty.”
H.E.R. shared the inspiring anthem “Change” for We The People, which is executive produced by former President Barack Obama and former First Lady Michelle Obama. The series, all about educating children on the basics of rights and citizenship, debuts July 4.
Most recently, Day was invited to join the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences as a 2021 member. She performed a medley of songs from The United States vs. Billie Holiday soundtrack at the 2021 BET Awards. She also won Best Actress at the ceremony. In April, she released her new track “Phone Dies,” produced by Anderson .Paak.
Monáe has joined the cast of Knives Out sequel. It follows her recent roles in Antebellum and The Glorias. She last released an album in 2018 called Dirty Computer. It ranked No. 2 on Rated R&B’s 25 best R&B albums list that year.
