Darkest Hour Are In Writing Mode

It has now been more than four years since the release of Darkest Hour’s most recent album, Godless Prophets & the Migrant Flora. That’s the longest we’ve ever had to wait in-between Darkest Hour records! Granted, there was that whole pesky pandemic thing last year, and guitarist Mike Schleibaum has spent at least some time working on The Extinction of You, the forthcoming seven-song release from his other project, Zealot R.I.P. (which also features Pig Destroyer’s Blake Harrison).

But still! Godless Prophets was a fucking masterpiece — it’s arguably Darkest Hour’s strongest offering, which is really saying something when you consider they’ve been doing this for more than twenty years. So yeah we’re all crazy-anxious to hear their next outing.

So raise a glass of Old Grand-Dad: the band recently revealed that they’re at Ivakota recording and rehearsal space in Washington, D.C. working on a new album. I don’t believe they’re in recording mode yet, but that is presumably coming up fast.

The group sprung the good news by sharing a photo of drummer Travis Orbin (below), along with this message:

“Travis Orbin in deep contemplation composing drums for our upcoming album 10. The magic in action!

“Just dug in for a while over at @ivakotarecording – we love that place!❤️

here is a shot from the action a month or so ago.

“The best way to help support us and stay connected is currently through our Patreon, thank you to everyone who has subscribed so far. If Patreon is not your thing, no problem album 10 is glorious, it’s coming, and you’re gonna hear it one way or another!!”

Not gonna lie: I just came a little.

While I go get myself cleaned up, remember that Darkest Hour will play on December 18 at the Palladium in Worcester, MA as part of an insane bill that also includes Unearth and Shadows Fall’s first performance since 2015. Tickets are running low! Get ’em while they last!!!
