I’ve had a healthy appreciation for Thrice for going on 20 years now. I haven’t loved everything they’ve released during that timeframe, but whenever they drop new music, I listen. They consistently push their own creative boundaries and challenge themselves, and that alone is worthy of respect even if every piece of music they’ve put out isn’t necessarily my cup of tea (to be clear: I’ve absolutely loved some of it!).
Thrice just dropped a brand new track, “Scavengers,” together with the announcement of their next album, Horizons/East. Just where does it place within the pantheon of Thrice material? This may feel like a cop out, but I don’t know yet! On first listen I like the song. On second listen I also like it. That certainly bodes well. Those hoping for a return to Artist in the Ambulance are never gonna get that — the track is in line with recent Thrice output — but if that’s you, you may even find something to like here with the buzzsaw, half-distorted guitar riff.
Give “Scavengers” a spin below. Horizons/East arrives September 17 via Epitaph Records; pre-order here.
