A year after Kem released his comeback single “Lie To Me,” and it soared to number one on R&B radio and Billboard, the balladeer has issued a remix featuring Wiz Khalifa.
The song’s production, spearheaded by Troy Taylor, gets a new twist, incorporating the piano sample of Brenda Russell’s “A Little Bit of Love,” popularized later by late rapper Big Pun and pop femme fatale Ariana Grande.
Khalifa’s slick rhymes fit deftly with Kem’s caressing voice, declaring that “a G taking care of his should be normalized.”
The original version of “Lie To Me” appears on Kem’s most recent album Love Always Wins. The album, named one of Rated R&B’s best R&B albums of 2020, featured his Toni Braxton-assisted duet “Live Out Your Love.” The buttery collaboration held the top position on the Billboard Adult R&B Airplay chart at the top of this year.
In April, Rated R&B spoke with Kem ahead of his TV One Uncensored special about his 30-year sobriety, handling triggers, and more. Revisit it here.
