Bruno Mars and Anderson .Paak have unveiled their second new song as Silk Sonic. It’s called “Skate,” and it’s sure to get everyone rollerskating again.
On this nostalgic stroll of gliding carefree on any flat surface, the two crooners emulate the essence of vintage soul that only can make us love again. Laced with lots of charming vocals and infectious energy, this winning effort is just one way for Silk Sonic to get closer to the lady of their dreams.
“In a room full of dimes you would be 100 dollars / If being fine was a crime, girl, they’d lock your lil’ fine ass up in a tower / The way you move like you do / Ooh it’s like you do it for a livin’,” sings .Paak in the first verse.
Coinciding with the release of “Skate” is a supporting ‘70s-esque visual directed by Mars and Florent Dechard, who share this year’s Video Director of the Year Award presented by BET. Watch it above.
Releasing music as Silk Sonic has been fruitful for Mars and .Paak. They won Best Group at the 2021 BET Awards, where they dazzled with “Leave The Door Open,” the breakout debut single.
The Motown-inspired jam, co-produced by Mars and D’Mile, led the pack on the Billboard Hot 100 for two non-consecutive weeks and peaked at the top position on various radio formats, including R&B and urban radio, respectively. It also earned the two nostalgic gents a historic win on the Billboard Adult R&B Songs chart.
With the arrival of their debut single, Silk Sonic promised to release a debut project titled An Evening with Silk Sonic. It will feature a guest appearance from the legendary Bootsy Collins.
