T.I. Defends DaBaby, Says Rappers Are Being ‘Bullied’ by LGBTQ+ Community

T.I. continues to defend DaBaby following his homophobic comments.

After speaking out earlier in the week, the Atlanta rapper went live on Instagram yet again to try and rationalize the hateful diatribe spewed by DaBaby during his Rolling Loud Miami set.

“Everyone up in arms and upset about what DaBaby said. I understand people saying that they feel that it’s insensitive,” T.I. said, according to Complex. “I think you guys have to understand that onstage, that’s not the place that rappers go to be sensitive and soothe everybody’s feelings. It’s a place to go to have a good time.”

According to Tip, DaBaby has become a victim of bullying from the LGBTQ+ community. “Why do words cause such a visceral reaction that will lead to someone trying to attack, villainize, demonize, crucify, condemn and like, that shit is like, now you bullying,” he added.

He also claimed to be an ally to the gay community, but now feels that the tables have turned. “We all stood up on behalf of gays and lesbians and people in the gay community because we thought it was some bullshit for y’all to have to be bullied,” he said. “But I don’t think any of us did that to feel like you would now have the authority to come and bully us.”

Earlier in the week, T.I. came to DaBaby’s defense while trying to compare him to Lil Nas X. “If Lil Nas X can kick his shit in peace… so should dababy,” he commented.

Others including Tory Lanez, Boosie Badazz, and Timbaland have seemingly supported DaBaby while many on social media have called for his cancelation. Despite his semi-apology, the “Ball If I Want To” rapper has been dropped by fashion retailer boohooMAN and was removed from the U.K.’s Parklife festival lineup.

His fellow entertainers including Elton John, Questlove, and Dua Lipa have condemned his comments, while Chris Brown also seemed to weigh in on the controversy.
