Guns N’ Roses Release Studio Version of New Song “Absurd”

Guns N’ Roses have released a studio recording of a new(ish) song, “Absurd.” You can listen below.

The song originated as a track called “Silkworms,” written by keyboardists Dizzy Reed and Chris Pitman, during sessions for Chinese Democracy. The group played it live a handful of times in 2001, and studio bootlegs of various iterations have leaked over the years.

The rejiggered version of the song, now called “Absurd,” was given its live debut this past Tuesday, August 3 at Fenway Park in Boston, MA.

The band performed it again last night (August 5) at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, NJ, at which time singer Axl Rose told the crowd, “In a couple of hours, at midnight… I’m not familiar with all this modern age shit, but you’ll be able to download this song.”

“Absurd” is the first new song Guns N’ Roses have released since Chinese Democracy in 2008. More notably still, it is the first original song Guns N’ Roses have released to feature original members Axl Rose, Slash, and Duff McKagan since 1991’s Use Your Illusion collection.
