Megadeth Announce Touring Bassist

Megadeth have at last revealed the identity of the bassist who will be joining them on their upcoming tour with Lamb of God, Trivium, and Hatebreed (replacing In Flames), and it’s not Steve Di Giorgio.

In fact, the band will be rejoined by James LoMenzo, who previously playe with the band from 2006 until 2010, and appears on the albums United Abominations (2007) and Endgame (2009).

LoMenzo is, of course, also known for his work with White Lion, Black Label Society, and, most recently, Firstborne, with onetime Megadeth drummer Chris Adler.

Says Mustaine of the news:

“I’m happy to announce that former bassist and Megadeth alumni James LoMenzo has graciously stepped in on the Metal Tour of The Year. Tour rehearsals just began, and we cannot wait to start crushing North America.”

Adds LoMenzo:

“I’m super stoked to be rejoining Megadeth for the upcoming Metal Tour of the Year. There are no better fans than Megadeth fans, I can’t wait to get out there and shred some Megadeth music with you all.”

It’s not clear if LoMenzo is the mystery bassist who also re-recorded David Ellefson’s parts for the new Megadeth album, The Sick, The Dying, and The Dead… in fact, I think he wasn’t, or they specifically would have said as much here. So maybe Di Giorgrio is still in the mix somewhere.

Ellefson, of course, was sacked from Megadeth in May amidst a sex scandal.

The Sick, The Dying, and The Dead is expected later this year. We’ve already heard a few samples, which one fan has used to create a whole song.
