Irreversible Entanglements, the collective fronted by Camae Ayewa (aka Moor Mother), have announced a new album. Open the Gates is out November 12 (via Don Giovanni/International Anthem). Today, the group has shared the title track from the LP along with a music video directed by Cyrus Moussavi. Check it out below.
Irreversible Entanglements—featuring saxophonist Keir Neuringer, trumpeter Aquiles Navarro, double bassist Luke Stewart, and drummer Tcheser Holmes, in addition to Ayewa—recorded Open the Gates on January 5 at at Rittenhouse Soundworks in Philadelphia. The band self-produced the album, too. Open the Gates follows last year’s Who Sent You?
Moor Mother recently announced her next album, Black Encyclopedia of the Air, which arrives September 17 via her new label Anti-. Revisit Pitchfork’s 2016 Rising interview “Moor Mother: Hardcore Poet.”
