No anniversary celebration is complete without getting hammered. Anthrax clearly understand this basic, inarguable fact of life, because the band is continuing their much-deserved 40th anniversary celebration with the release of “Anthrax XL,” a 115 proof “Solera-aged, single-barrel bourbon finished for 40 days in a 20-year old Oloroso Sherry cask.” That all sounds real classy!
“I sampled eight different whiskeys from Hillrock’s rickhouse when I was there to pick one for our 40th-anniversary bottle,” Scott Ian says in a press release. Holy crap, THE INCREDIBLE SACRIFICES THIS MAN MAKES FOR HIS FANS!!!
Kidding aside, I do think that it’s cool Anthrax went to such lengths to create a quality product when they probably had most of us at “alcohol.”
Only one barrel of Anthrax XL has been produced, resulting in 400 bottles, each of which comes in a black velvet drawstring giftbag. Put another way: they cost $155 each.
There will also be forty extra-limited limited edition bottles which comes with all the same shit as the usual bottle as well as a customized box encased in a SilverFoil card stock wrap-around and, more importantly, a Golden Ticket, which gets you and a guest into an Anthrax show + meet n’ greet on their 2022 tour. Those’re $350 a pop.
You can watch a video of Scott Ian and Frank Bello discussing the bourbon below. Order your bottle here.
Speaking of Anthrax and 2022, Bello recently predicted that the band’s new album would be released next year. Fingers crossed…
