Halsey has been keeping fans on their toes since the August release of their fourth studio album, If I Can’t Have Love, I Want Power.
In the same month, and just before the release of the album, fans saw the highly anticipated If I Can’t Have Love, I Want Power film make its big-screen debut in IMAX theaters across the world. Just before the release of If I Can’t Have Love, I Want Power, Halsey prefaced their new album on Instagram as a “concept album about the joys and horrors of pregnancy and childbirth.” They continued, “the idea that me as a sexual being and my body as a vessel and gift to my child are two concepts that can co-exist peacefully and powerfully.”
Weeks before the album made its debut, Halsey treated fans with a stirring film to accompany the 13-track record. Having been written and produced by Halsey and directed by Grammy-nominated filmmaker Colin Tilley, the film was announced as an “evocative, horror-tinged fairytale.” It also aims to “explore the labyrinth of sexuality and birth.”
The film experience centers its narrative around the music from the album, produced by Nine Inch Nails’ Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross. If I Can’t Have Love, I Want Power sees Halsey portraying the role of Queen Lila, who throughout the course of the film comes to realize her potential to produce and tear down life.

“I have waited my whole life to be exactly where I am right now, and at times, I have enjoyed the darkness along the way,” Halsey shares. “It’s now your turn.”
