KIRBY warned of a new album with several singles released this year. The extraordinarily textured singer finally sounds the alarm with Sis. He Wasn’t the One, the continuation of last year’s Sis.
The 10-track collection is a splendid addition to the crisp autumn weather, parallel to KIRBY’s jacketless heart in songs like “Boyz II Men,” an early single, and “Leon Pt. 2,” a sequel to the Sis opener. On the latter, she gets a whiff of him moving towards marriage with someone else and wonders if she knows the Leon she does.
“Lately,” a standout indeed, is a duet featuring BJ the Chicago Kid. The track, stretched over a languorous production, consists of delicate vocal phrasing from KIRBY and BJ’s soulful croons regarding an intimate encounter between two lonely, anxious lovers.
Additional songs include “Can We Be Friends?” and “Coconut Oil.”
Once KIRBY wraps her stint on John Legend’s headlining tour later this month, she will lend her time and voice to shows this November with Pink Sweat$. Tickets are available now on her official website.
