Between the Buried and Me Bassist’s Nightmare Scenario Releases New Album Inspired by Dune

Between The Buried And Me bassist Dan Briggs has released a new album under his ‘Nightmare Scenario’ solo moniker.

Entitled The Chord of Living Flesh, the offering “sets music to the songs found within the first Dune novel, written by Frank Herbert.”

The novel, published in 1965, includes a character named Gurney Halleck who frequently sings while playing a nine-stringed instrument called a baliset.

You can stream the entire record below, and/or purchase physical copies here.

Not-coincidentally, a new cinematic adaptation of Dune opens this coming Friday, October 23. Directed by Denis Villeneuve (Blade Runner 2049, Arrival, etc.), the cast includes celebrity metalhead Jason Momoa (Aquaman, Game of Thrones) in the role of ‘Duncan Idaho.’ Gurney Halleck is played in the movie by Josh Brolin. Alas, the new Dune has excised the baliset and Gurney Halleck’s songs.
