Slash Offers an Update on New Guns N’ Roses Material

Despite having released two “new” songs originally intended for Chinese Democracy over the summer, Slash says Guns N’ Roses have not actually begun to work on new material as of yet.

Speaking with Audacy Check In, the guitarist says:

“As far as new Guns is concerned, we haven’t even gotten to that point of really in earnest sitting down and writing. We’ve been doing a lot of material that’s been sort of sitting around for a while. So that will be a whole focused endeavor unto itself.”

Slash went on to explain how the band came to focus on the previously-unreleased Chinese Democracy-era tracks “Absurd” and “Hard Skool,” which were released in July and September:

“They both have a lot of history. What happened was Axl [Rose, GN’R singer] has all these songs that he recorded at some point along the way. And so Duff [McKagan, GN’R bassist] and I went in and re-did them, basically… Like, I wrote my own kind of parts to what else is going on, and [we] just sort of took the drums and re-did everything else.”

Both songs will be included on a new EP, also called Hard Skool, due for release next year. The songs mark Slash and Duff’s first time recording original material with Guns N’ Roses since 1991.

Slash recently announced 4, a new album from Slash Featuring Myles Kennedy & the Conspirators. That’s due out February 11. It will be the inaugural release on Gibson Records, the new label from Gibson Guitars. You can listen to the first single, “River is Rising,” here.
