Depending on the situation, getting back with an ex isn’t always a bad thing. On Asiahn’s new song “We Can,” she’s willing to work things out with her former lover, but makes it clear that she is not tolerating any emotional games.
“I bet you thought you’d take my heart and run away with it / But, baby, no-no, no / Don’t got permission to fall in love with me / Unless I tell you so,” Asiahn angelically sings over a jazzy production.
“We Can” contains a sample from Eartha Kitt’s 1982 documentary, All by Myself: The Eartha Kitt Story. Specifically, Asiahn repurposed Kitt’s interview where she shared her thoughts about love and compromise.
“A HUGE THANK YOU to Eartha Kitts [sic] estate for allowing me the blessing of having the queen involved in this record,” Asiahn wrote on Instagram. “I am so honored!”
Asiahn has been keeping her fans engaged with new music throughout this year. In January, she released The Interlude, her major-label debut EP, via SinceThe80’s/Motown Records. Two months later, she followed up with The Interlude (Orchestral Performance). She didn’t stop there. In May, Asiahn returned with her dream-chasing anthem “OMW” and then “Fall Back” in September.
The Charleston, South Carolina, native is expected to release her debut album in early 2022.
