Report: Aaliyah and The Weeknd Team Up for ‘Poison’ Single

The Weeknd may have a collaboration with Aaliyah on the way.

A new report from HITS Daily Double claims that a posthumous song from Aaliyah featuring the “Blinding Lights” singer will soon be hitting the airwaves. The unreleased track, titled “Poison,” appeared in a list of songs being sent to Urban AC radio.

“Poison” could serve as the lead single from Aaliyah’s upcoming collaborations album. Aaliyah’s uncle, Blackground Records founder Barry Hankerson, previously announced plans to release a posthumous project from Aaliyah featuring new music, including contributions from Drake, Future, Ne-Yo, Chris Brown, Snoop Dogg, and Timbaland.

“It has been really nice,” Hankerson told Billboard of the new recordings. “The only part that has been a little distasteful has been so many people being angry with me because the music didn’t come out when they wanted it. But I learned to live with that. There’s nothing I can do about it.”

The Weeknd previously sampled Aaliyah’s “Rock the Boat” on “What You Need” off his 2011 mixtape House of Balloons.

Earlier this year, Aaliyah’s catalog was released on streaming services for the first time as part of Blackground’s new partnership with independent distributor EMPIRE.
