Court Date Set for Tool Drummer Danny Carey Over Assault Charge

Tool drummer Danny Carey is set to appear in a Kansas City-area court on January 12 for the incident that took place at the Kansas City International Airport on Sunday, December 12.

The drummer was arrested for misdemeanor assault following a “disturbance” between Carey and an airport employee, and he was subsequently released on bail.

Billboard has obtained a copy of the citation, which, in addition to revealing the January court date, alleges that Carey “intentionally inflict[ed] injury” on an unnamed male while shoving him in the chest with two fingers and shouting, “You’re a f*cking f*ggot!” multiple times.” Billboard reached out to Tool for comment, but the band declined.

Video filmed after the incident shows Carey having a discussion with police outside the airport and asking “who did I assault?” Later, with his back against the wall, he tells the officers, “I’m the drummer from Tool… I just wanna go home,” before they take his phone and throw it to the ground, turn him around and apply handcuffs.

Carey, who often wears sports jerseys while performing, was born in Lawrence, KS and was wearing a Kansas City Chiefs jersey in the clip. It’s not known whether he attended the Chiefs football game on Sunday, where they beat the Raiders at home, but he had performed with the University of Kansas student band at the Jayhawks’ basketball game vs. Mizzou on Saturday, December 11 (video below).

Video of Carey’s arrest, as well as his performance at the Kansas basketball game, are below.
