“I think it’s my response to where the world has been at in recent times,” FKA twigs said of her new mixtape Caprisongs, which is out now. The 2020 quarantine inspired the 17-track set.
Taking simple, intimate interactions from her friends and even complete strangers, twigs found herself surged with writing angles for her latest body of work.
She calls this tape a “journey back to myself,” crediting her “amazing collaborators and friends” for setting her on a new course.
“I started recording my friends talking and weaved it through the mixtape like a narrative of my healing. Having such wonderful people around me to laugh with. Made me feel lucky. If you are lonely or feel isolated or void of encouragement by your immediate circle you can borrow my friends on the mixtape,” wrote twigs in a lengthy Instagram post.
Twigs received production help from El Guincho, Jasper Harris, Psymun, Arca, Sounwave, and many more, plus guest appearances from The Weeknd, Daniel Caesar, Jorja Smith, Rema, and several others.
Launch single “Tears in the Club” featuring The Weeknd arrived last December alongside a music video.
Speaking of visuals, along with the release of the Caprisongs, twigs shared a music video for the opener “ride the dragon,” which Aidan Zamiri directed. Watch it below.
Caprisongs is twigs’ first full-length effort since 2019’s Magdalene.
