Pinocchio is set during Benito Mussolini’s reign over Italy in the 1930s. It tells the story of a wooden puppet who suddenly comes to life. He soon gets into mischief, putting him at odds with his woodcarver “father,” Geppetto.

But this telling is sure to be unlike the tales you’ve heard in the past, according to what Sebastian J. Cricket says in the trailer. It’s not hard to believe the cricket, based on the fact del Toro has previously worked on films such as Pan’s Labyrinth, Hellboy and Scary stories to Tell in the Dark.

Pinocchio features the voices of Ewan McGregor as Cricket, David Bradley as Geppetto and Gregory Mann as the titular character. The film also includes Academy Award winners Cate Blanchett, Christoph Waltz and Tilda Swinton. In addition, Finn Wolfhard of the Aubreys makes an appearance.
