Kanye West Is Not Interested in Creating NFTs

Kanye West is not jumping on the NFT bandwagon.

The Yeezy billionaire has made it clear that he has no interest in producing a non-fungible token (NFT). On Monday (Jan. 31), Ye returned to Instagram to share his feelings on the digital craze.

“STOP ASKING ME TO DO NFT’s I’M NOT FINNA CO-SIGN,” he wrote. “FOR NOW I’M NOT ON THAT WAVE I MAKE MUSIC AND PRODUCTS IN THE REAL WORLD.”

He also penned a handwritten note explaining his decision. “My focus is on building real products in the real world, real clothes, rap shelter,’” he said. “Do not ask me to do a fu**ing NFT.”

However, he did not completely rule it out in the future. “Ask me later,” he ended his note.

Many of his peers have joined the NFT craze, including Eminem, who paid around $462,000 for an ape drawing NFT that resembles the rapper himself. Justin Bieber dropped a whopping $1.29 million on his Bored Ape Yacht Club NFT.

Ye has been hard at work on DONDA 2, which is being executive produced by Future. He recently revealed that he was giving up his phone until the album drops on Feb. 22.

“I don’t have a phone until 2.22.22,” he said. “My focus is taking my kids to school and finishing the album.”

In an interview with Rolling Stone, DONDA 2 collaborator Digital Nas opened up about the creative process of making a sequel to last year’s DONDA.

“These are the directives for the album: ‘If it cannot be played at a funeral, childbirth, graduation, a wedding, it will not be on our record,’” said Nas. “We learned a lot from DONDA 1. We learned what hit. We learned what was sticking. So we took from there. It has to be able to be played at four major moments in people’s lives.”
