Not having issued an album since 2019’s Green Balloon, Tank and the Bangas make up for lost time with the release date for its official follow-up Red Balloon. It’s out May 13 via Verve Forecast/Universal Music Canada.
Like Green Balloon, Red Balloon is stacked with tons of guest appearances, one of which is Alex Isley, who appeared on the 2019 set.
Other notable cameos include Wayne Brady, Big Freedia, Masego, The HamilTones, Jacob Collier, Trombone Shorty, and Lalah Hathaway, who guests on two tracks.
“This has been one of the best attempts thus far at capturing what happens when we’re all playing at the same time Red Balloon is coming straight for your heart and your neck. It’s going to make you bop and think and love, hopefully, and even love people that look different,” expressed Tank and the Bangas in a joint statement.
Part of the tracklisting is their new single, “No ID,” a funky, tech-soul bouncer that firmly cards and determines who will get anywhere close to the unique lady parts of frontwoman Tarriona ‘Tank’ Ball.
To get a more accurate picture of “No ID,” a supporting video set at a roller rink and directed by Phillip Youmans is available for viewing. See it below.
Along with winter show spot dates, Tank and the Bangas will get a head start at promoting Red Balloon when they open up for Cory Henry’s spring tour in March. Tickets are available on Henry’s official website.
The band last issued their EP Friend Goals in 2020.
