Video: Eddie Vedder Talks Smack About Tommy Lee’s Drum Kit

Right now, there’s a bitter feud going on between Pearl Jam and Mötley Crüe, and by ‘bitter feud’ we mean ‘aged rockers throwing haughty softball-pitch jabs at each other.’ But now, Pearl Jam frontman Eddie Vedder might have gone too far — he insulted Tommy Lee’s drum kit. What the FUCK, dude.

So if you don’t remember, Eddie Vedder accused Mötley Crüe of being gross and sexist in The New York Times, because, well, because he’s a grunge guy and they don’t like that sort of stuff:

“You know, I used to work in San Diego loading gear at a club. I’d end up being at shows that I wouldn’t have chosen to go to — bands that monopolized late-’80s MTV. The metal bands that — I’m trying to be nice — I despised. ‘Girls, Girls, Girls’ and Mötley Crüe: [expletive] you. I hated it. I hated how it made the fellas look. I hated how it made the women look. It felt so vacuous.

This led Mötley Crüe’s Nikki Sixx to tweet an insult at Vedder, because, well, because he’s a hair metal guy and they live for shit like this:

“Made me laugh today reading how much the singer in Pearl Jam hated @MotleyCrue. Now considering that they’re one of the most boring bands in history it’s kind of a compliment isn’t it?”

But here’s where Vedder took it too far. As reported by Consequence of Sound, the singer was recently performing with his Earthlings backing band, among whose ranks is Red Hot Chili Peppers’ Chad Smith. Vedder pointed to the drums and told the crowd,  “That drum kit — that silver, beautiful machine that he is the engine of — does not need to elevate or rotate to do its job. Let me just point that out.”

Dude. DUDE. First of all, you do NOT insult a drummer’s kit — that’s like insulting someone’s crutches, okay? Second, let’s be honest, it probably would’ve been pretty cool if Smith had lifted into the air and spun around.

And third, you sound like kind of a frumpy douche, man. There are different kinds of rock shows, and big arena rock shows are some of the most fun. It can’t all be twanging coffee shop gigs, you know?

Anyway, we’ll let you know if these guys start an actual fight, but until then, enjoy a lot of this harrumphing.
