In a new interview with Jose Mangin on Sirius XM’s Liquid Metal, Megadeth frontman Dave Mustaine revealed that Testament’s Steve DiGiorgio was the bassist who replaced Dave Ellefson after his unfortunate firing due to an infidelity.
Here’s what Dave said:
“We obviously had that weird little…well, it wasn’t little, but we had something happen that we needed to make a decision on, and it set us back a little bit timing-wise, because we needed to recalibrate and find someone to perform the bass parts, and we found who I thought was the perfect fit for us while I decided what to do….do you know who it was?…It was Steve DiGiorgio. You’re the first person I told.”
There you have it — you’ll be hearing Steve on Megadeth’s new album. Kudos to DiGiorgio!
Mustaine also revealed that Ice T will do a guest spot on the record:
“There’s a song called ‘Night Stalker’…I can’t remember if that was the fastest one or not, but ‘Night Stalker’ is about the 160th Battallion with the U.S. Army, and it’s all the black-ops helicopters that go in at night, nobody knows they’re there, they’re in, they’re out, and…I had my buddy Ice T join me on a part in the middle of it, because Ice was a Ranger in the army, and he did two tours over in Afghanistan…I think that was back in ’91, when I first met him. I know he was a Ranger. “
On top of all that, the album features a cover of Dead Kennedys’ “Police Truck” and Sammy Hagar’s “This Planet’s On Fire” featuring vocals from Hagar himself. Dave also confirmed the band will release The Sick, The Dying, And The Dead on July 8.
