Remember When Britney Spears Sang About Wanting Another Baby?

Britney Spears sent the world into a tailspin by announcing she’s pregnant with her third child in a casual Instagram post Monday (April 11).

Her fiancé Sam Asghari seemingly confirmed the news with a heartfelt message of his own. “Marriage and kids are a natural part of a strong relationship filled with love and respect,” he wrote alongside a painting of a family of lions. (Fans will likely recall that Asghari often refers to Spears as a lioness.)

“Fatherhood is something I have always looked forward to and I don’t take lightly,” he stressed. ”It is the most important job I will ever do.”

It’s been nearly 16 years since the “Ooh Ooh Baby” icon gave birth to her second son Jayden James. However, she has been very open about her desire to have more kids over the years.

Some fans might not even remember that she’s sung about it before.

In 2008, fans celebrated what they lovingly refer to as Britmas — basically Christmas for Britney Spears fans — when one of her unreleased demos surfaced online. This time, they got to hear a re-imagined cover of Ace of Base’s “All That She Wants.” Although the verses had been modified, the chorus remained the same.

“All that she wants is another baby / She’s gone tomorrow,” Spears sings.

Revisit the leaked track below:

In the wake of her 2004 demo “Mona Lisa” — which the hit-maker famously debuted on a local radio station and said would lead into an unreleased album called Original Doll  some assumed this was a sign that she was prepared to retire and focus on her family.

Although the song leaked in 2008, it wasn’t until 2015 that we learned anything about its origins.
During an interview with ABC News, Ace of Base star Ulf Ekberg confirmed that it was recorded in 2007 (presumably for Blackout) but left on the cutting room floor.
“It was only in Denmark, never finished and didn’t end up on her album,” Ekberg explained. ”It was cool though. She took the choruses, took away the verses and wrote new ones about her mom. It was very strong.”

Interestingly, Spears waited until 2016 to reference the song herself. She did so casually during an appearance on James Corden’s “Carpool Karaoke.”

When the conversation turned to kids, she informed the late-night host that she wanted three more kids but first wanted to find the right man. Then she sang a snippet of the ”All That She Wants” chorus a cappella.

At the time, Spears seemingly implied that she wasn’t ready to get married again — “I don’t believe in marriage anymore,” she declared — but was ready to expand her family in other ways.

Watch her on “Carpool Karaoke,” below:

Spears has dedicated several other songs to Sean Preston and Jayden James, her children with ex-husband Kevin Federline.

Notably, she wrote “Someday (I Will Understand)” shortly before learning she was pregnant for the first time, according to USA Today. Then there’s the aptly titled lullaby “My Baby,” which closed out the standard edition of 2008’s Circus.

She didn’t only sing about motherhood, though. The “Brightest Morning Star” singer brought up having another child several times over the years.

In 2013, Today noted that she told InStyle she would love to have another baby. This time, she was hoping for a little girl who would be a “mini-me.”

In 2018, two years into her relationship with Asghari, reports broke that she was longing for another child.

Spears also broached the topic in court during her bombshell hearing about her conservatorship. The pop star claimed that she had an IUD birth control device that she was not allowed to remove.

“I want to be able to get married and have a baby,” Spears said during the hearing, according to The New York Times. “I was told right now in the conservatorship I am not able to get married or have a baby.”

After the conservatorship concluded, she took to Instagram to reveal that she still had a baby on the brain.

“I’m thinking about having another baby,” she wrote alongside a photo of a child standing on its tiptoes in Nov. 2021.

The Daily Mail notes that she even sparked pregnancy rumors earlier this year after posting a video of a pregnant woman’s stomach.

Fifteen years after singing about her desire for another child, Spears is about to make her dreams come true. Talk about a case of self-fulfilling prophecy, and one that we are so happy to see!
