It’s 2003 again, and Mahalia is responsible for flipping the switch on the time machine. The rising singer has released the new song, “In The Club,” which will instantly put you in the mind of 50 Cent’s major crossover hit “In Da Club.”
Mahalia’s latest isn’t as boisterous as the hip-hop mogul’s breakout single. Instead, she decides to distance herself from those who’ve only resurfaced after her career caught fire.
Cutting them off swiftly with her sharp tongue, Mahalia sings, “No matter what you say, there ain’t ever gonna be a sequel.”
Speaking about “In The Club,” Mahalia wrote on Instagram, “It’s all about getting rid of shit friends. Cutting out the bad to welcome the new.”
Mahalia paired the new song with a music video she co-directed with Oliver Kane. Casually dressed in the backseat of a luxury ride, Mahalia is seen in the visual performing the song alongside two assumed friends, who are dropped off by the end.
It has yet to be announced if Mahalia is working on her major-label sophomore album. However, since the release of 2019’s Love and Compromise, she’s put out a mini project titled Isolation Tapes.
Besides “In The Club,” five other songs surrounding this expected new era were released: the Rico Nasty-assisted “Jealous;” the certified jam “Whenever You’re Ready;” the AJ Tracey-featured “Roadside;” the woman-to-woman tune “Letter To My Ex;” and the reflective “Whatever Simon Says.”
Mahalia kicks off her Letter To My Ex Tour in Europe on May 17. Ruti will serve as the special guest. Tickets for the tour and festival stops this summer are available now on her official website.
