As promised, Yuna continues to churn out installments in her five-part album series. Y2 is the second installment of her Y5 project, and it includes three new tracks.
The opener, “Girl U Used 2 Know,” is the ultimate payback anthem for women who’ve left a bad relationship and want their ex to get a taste of their glow up. At least in a title sense, Yuna takes inspiration in part from Whitney Houston’s “I Learned from the Best” and evens the score with a former ex by acting as nonchalant as they once did.
The last two tracks take place in Yuna’s bedroom. “24 Hours” depicts a sleepyheaded Yuna wallowing in self-pity following some separation. The project’s lead single, “Make a Move,” finds Yuna wide awake and anxious to make the first step in watering a potential romantic connection.
Celebrating her 10th year in the music industry, after the release of acclaimed albums such as Chapters and Rouge, Yuna looks to embark on an independent journey with Y5.
Yuna’s interest in the do-it-yourself model came in the middle of the pandemic when she learned how to produce in her father’s office-turned-studio in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. So far, this initiative has yielded the newly-released Y2 and Y1, which she shared in March.
Yuna will unveil the additional installments throughout the year ahead of Y5.
