Kehlani had a pleasant return back to Billboard’s Top R&B Albums chart, as Blue Water Road debuted at No. 3 in its opening week.
According to Luminate, Blue Water Road sold 22,000 equivalent units in its first week. Of that total, 15,500 came from on-demand streams.
Blue Water Road marked Kehlani’s fifth project, dating back to 2015, to appear inside the top five on the Top R&B Albums list. Three of those releases, including 2020’s It Was Good Until It Wasn’t, started at the top spot.
The sales sum of Blue Water Road assisted in its No. 13 entry on the Billboard 200, the multi-genre albums chart. Additionally, the album, executive produced by Pop Wansel, debuted at No. 8 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart.
Many of the non-singles from Blue Water Road were introduced to the Hot R&B Songs chart for the first time. Such songs include “Everything” (No. 17); “Any Given Sunday” featuring Blxst (No. 22); and “Wish I Never” (No. 23).
As of today, “Up At Night” featuring Justin Bieber, is the highest-charting single off Blue Water Road on the aforementioned list. It peaked at No. 13 in April.
Released in late April, Blue Water Road featured guest appearances from Thundercat, Jessie Reyez, Syd, and Ambré, among others. Other early singles include “Altar” released in September 2021, and “Little Story,” which arrived in February of this year.
Kehlani appears on Syd’s new album Broken Hearts Club.
