The last big song titled “Magic Stick” united Lil’ Kim and 50 Cent and occupied the number two spot on the Hot 100 without a video. None of that is intended to add pressure on Trè Samuels, the newest Warner Records signee who released his major-label debut single of the same title.
Nothing about the lines of this pleasure-seeking track is as X-rated as the 2003 classic from the two hip-hop giants. The Australian singer/model fine-tunes the slick talk of his male predecessors, finding himself sprung off the curves of a bashful interest.
With that confidence boost, he adopts a playboy ego and suggests his stroke game will have his girl spilling the details in a group text.
Samuels admitted that “Magic Stick” began as something just for kicks. It wasn’t until notable sonic tidbits like the trap drum patterns that set things in motion for a more meaningful studio session
“As soon as the chords were laid on top, it game it a smooth R&B feel. It only felt right to turn it into a summer anthem. A song where I’m spitting game to a girl. Just an uptempo feel-good song,” explains Samuels.
Samuels accompanied “Magic Stick” with a video directed by Mike Video.
“Magic Stick” is the first song from Samuels since 2020’s “It’s Ok To Break Down.” The song clears a path for his major-label EP, set to arrive later this year.
Samuels’ last project Raspberry Wine released in 2017. Since then, he built a modeling profile in endless fashion campaigns, one of which paired him with Rihanna’s Fenty x Puma collection.
He also secured a major songwriting credit on Chris Brown and Young Thug’s “Go Crazy” from their Slime & B mixtape. The 3x multi-platinum single topped Billboard’s R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay chart for 29 weeks.
