KIRBY has never been afraid of saying what’s exactly on her mind. In the new song “New D,” produced by Homer Steinweiss and Nick Movshon, the rising singer-songwriter has an out with the old, in with the new attitude with her current lover.
Like a receipt within its 30 days window, KIRBY hopes she can return or exchange him for some fresh meat that can make her sweat like an athlete with his stroke game. She also could use him for musical inspiration.
KIRBY sings, “Replacing that ass like Beyoncé / Want you to meet my fiancé / Can’t wait to wave that n***a all in your face / So close, so close I hear you asking for space.”
“New D” marks KIRBY’s second song released this year. She released “Black Leaves,” the theme song for ABC’s limited series Women of the Movement, on January 6. Both songs follow KIRBY’s new album Sis. He Wasn’t the One.
Released in October 2021, the 10-track LP included the hot girl summer anthem “Coconut Oil” and the languorous BJ the Chicago Kid duet “Lately.” Sis. He Wasn’t the One went on to make Rated R&B’s best R&B albums of 2021 list.
“As an album with a strong lyrical foundation and an evergreen sound, KIRBY’s Sis. He Wasn’t the One should be set to keep music fans of all genres coming back for years to come,” wrote Rated R&B’s Anders Hare in his year-end blurb.
KIRBY is currently supporting the sequel to 2020’s Sis on the European leg of Leon Bridges’ Gold Diggers Sound Tour.
