Silk Sonic Selects ‘After Last Night’ as Next R&B Radio Single

Sik Sonic, the duo composed of Anderson .Paak and Bruo Mars, has chosen “After Last Night” as their fourth R&B radio single. It appears on their 2020 debut album, An Evening With Silk Sonic.

“After Last Night,” co-produced by Mars, D’Mile and The Stereotypes, impacted the airplay format dominated by contemporary and traditional R&B recordings earlier this week. The sensual standout earned the most added title, pulling in 25 adds.

The late-night love fest includes commentary from the legendary Boosty Collins, who gave Mars and .Paak their stage name. It also gives a feature credit to Thundercat, who assisted with background vocals and played bass on the sensual number.

Three other songs from Silk Sonic’s debut full-length, An Evening With Silk Sonic, have created incredible noise on R&B radio. First, their breakout hit “Leave The Door Open,” released in March 2021, went straight to number one in less than a month. The song, co-produced by D’Mile and Mars, was certified 2x multi-platinum in August 2021.

Then, the nostalgic follow-up “Skate” spent a generous amount of time within in the top 5 throughout the fall months. In January, Silk Sonic topped R&B radio for the second time with “Smokin’ Out The Window.” They’d do the same on urban radio with the breakup anthem.

Silk Sonic scored their third chart-topper on R&B radio with their faithful rendition of Funk Shun’s “Love’s Train,” which was released on Valentine’s Day. The cover does not appear on An Evening With Silk Sonic. Still, it potentially foreshadows how the duo’s next single, “After Last Night,” could perform.

Most of the year, Silk Sonic has spent on stage accepting awards for their work together. At the 2022 BET Awards in June, the super duo took home Album of the Year for An Evening With Silk Sonic.

Two months earlier, they were presented with four trophies at the 64th Grammy Awards, all of which were for “Leave The Door Open.”

In late 2021, An Evening With Silk Sonic ranked No. 7 on Rated R&B’s year-end best R&B albums list

Next month, Silk Sonic will resume their Las Vegas residency at Dolby Live at Park MGM. It runs Aug. 3 through Aug. 19. Tickets are available now.

In other R&B radio-related news, .Paak is getting spins for his collaboration “Here With Me” with Mary J. Blige. The chill track is lifted from Blige’s recent album Good Morning Gorgeouswhich was released on Feb. 11.

Chris Brown tapped .Paak for one of five additional songs on his freshly released Breezy (Deluxe). It’s called “Inner Peace” and it was produced by BongoByTheWay
