Steel Panther Used as Photo for Mötley Crüe Documentary

Film studio Monarch Films made a humorous mistake when they used a photo of modern glam metal band Steel Panther as the cover for a Mötley Crüe documentary.

The mix up was brought to everyone’s attention by Steel Panther vocalist Michael Starr, who reposted a TikTok to his Instagram. A quick investigation of the Monarch Films website also shows that Mötley Crüe is misspelled there as “Motley Crew.”

It appears that Monarch Films are mainly a distributor, so they may not be entirely familiar with the subject matter of the 45-minute documentary. Still, it feels like kind of a major oversight when the film is being sent to Amazon and other huge platforms.

We couldn’t convince anyone to let us put Rock ‘n Roll Icon: Motley Crue on the expense card, so you’ll have to rent it and watch for yourself. The movie’s official description is as follows:

This Music Bio looks at the American heavy Metal Band Mötley Crüe. Formed in Los Angeles in 1981 by bassist Nikki Sixx, drummer Tommy Lee, lead guitarist Mick Mars and lead singer Vince Neil. Mötley Crüe has sold over 100 million albums worldwide. They have also achieved seven platinum or multi-platinum certifications, nine Top 10 albums on the Billboard 200 chart (including 1989’s Dr. Feelgood, which is Mötley Crüe’s only album to reach number one), twenty- two Top 40 mainstream rock hits, and six Top 20 pop singles. The band experienced several short- term lineup changes in the 1990s and 2000s; these included the introduction of vocalist John Corabi (who was Neil’s replacement from 1992 to 1996) and drummers Randy Castillo and Samantha Maloney, both of whom filled in for Lee during his absence from the band from 1999 to 2004.

This program looks at highlights of their career.

The strangest part of all this is that Mötley Crüe is spelled right in the description and on the movie cover. You can rent the movie via Amazon if you’re interested.
