Chloe Bailey, eponymously known as Chlöe, has scored her first platinum award from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) as a solo act. Her debut single “Have Mercy” has officially sold more than one million equivalent units since its September 2021 release.
The twerk anthem, which Chlöe co-wrote and co-produced, achieved gold status in January. The song, which has collected 128 million streams on Spotify so far, peaked at No. 1 at urban radio in December 2021.
“Have Mercy” is the lead single from Chlöe’s highly awaited debut solo album that will release on Parkwood Entertainment/Columbia Records. A release date has not been announced at this time, but Chlöe confirmed in March that the album is complete. Nevertheless, Chlöe has been consistent with dropping singles to build anticipation for her project.
In April, she released the rump-shaking bop “Treat Me,” which samples rapper Bubba Sparxxx’s 2005 hit “Ms. New Booty.” Two months later, in June, Chlöe slowed down the tempo with her sultry track “Surprise.” She performed the two songs at the 2022 BET Awards.
Speaking of awards, Chlöe is nominated for Best R&B Video (“Have Mercy”) at the 2022 MTV Video Music Awards. Other nominees in that category include Alicia Keys, H.E.R., Normani, Summer Walker and The Weeknd. The ceremony will air live Sunday, Aug. 28, at 8 p.m. ET.
Chlöe will appear on Calvin Harris’ collaborative album, Funk Wav Bounces Vol. 2, which drops Aug. 5.
