Avery*Sunshine Releases New Album ‘Fours Songs & a Bootleg’

Avery*Sunshine is back with a new album, Four Songs & a Bootleg. The follow-up to 2017’s Twenty Sixty Four marks the second release under her imprint BigShine Recordings, which she runs with her husband Dana Johnson.

Four Songs & a Bootleg includes four newly-shared tracks and a live collection of songs from previously-released albums, including the 2010 self-titled and the 2014 full-length The SunRoom

The album opens with “Lucky,” a love song of gratefulness and self-assurance. R&B radio fans could certainly find pleasure in this dominating the airwaves if it impacts. And if you loved the standard version, your ears will thank Sunshine for adding the live rendition to the album.

Sunshine follows with “Don’t Count Me Out,” which sounds like a tribute to Al Green, from the bluesy production choice to the muscular vocal at specific points.

On “Boomerang,” Sunshine expresses herself serenely across a feather-weighted arrangement while she trucks along to a new purpose on “Movin.”

Following the release of Twenty Sixty Four in 2017, Sunshine issued an EP that featured the songs that didn’t make the original edition. Then, in 2020, she released the song “How Will You Remember Me.”

Sunshine has a few shows on the horizon. On Aug. 12, she’ll perform at the Long Beach Jazz Festival in Long Beach, California. During Labor Day weekend, she’ll take the stage in Dallas, Texas, and San Diego, California. Get details on tickets for those three concerts and others via her official website.
