Emerging singer Samaria has released “Somebody Else,” her rendition of English rock band The 1975‘s track that appeared on their 2016 album, I Like It When You Sleep, for You Are So Beautiful yet So Unaware of It.
Samaria’s reimagined version, which makes for a delightful listen, was co-produced by Grammy winner Swagg R’Celious (H.E.R., Snoh Aalegra) and Brandon Williams.
“I first heard ‘Somebody Else’ on a friend’s playlist,” says Samaria. “We were driving from Paia to Kihei on Maui with the windows down and it felt like a dream. The day before hearing it, I had sporadically bought a plane ticket to go to an island in hopes it would make me feel better after a breakup.”
She continues, “The first line of the song had me ready to run it back without even hearing the rest. I decided to cover it when I realized it had been 3 weeks since I first listened to it and I was still singing it in the shower.”
“Somebody Else” is accompanied by a performance video directed by Tyler Cunningham.
It’s uncertain if “Somebody Else” will appear on a future project, or if it’s a standalone single. “Somebody Else” is Samaria’s first song release of 2022. Last year, she dropped two solo tracks, “Stuck” and “Out the Way.”
In 2020, she released three songs: “Trippin,” “Fifth Floor” and “Let Me Down.”
The Bay Area native last released a project in 2019, which was her EP Adventures of a Lovergirl.
