Thuy Shares New Song ‘Playing Tricks’

Thuy hopes her heart has led her to something real on the new song “Playing Tricks,” which BEATZZBYTAZZ (Elhae, Jimmy Brown) produced.

Fooled once before in a hyped-up relationship, Thuy sings across a soft bed of moody guitar strums and thudding drums about taking her time to decide if this new someone is the one. While it may look and feel perfect and worth it, she wants to be extra sure this time.

“I was on the brink of giving up / Something told me I should hang it up / Never thought I’d find a love quite like you / And I pray I never end up losing you,” she sings at the onset of the downtempo song.

“Playing Tricks” arrives with a music video, in which she also describes a short film. The Edgar Daniel-directed visual will address “relationships, womanhood, and family.”

“Playing Tricks” follows Thuy’s July release “Trust” featuring rising singer RINI. It, too, unrolled with a music video directed by Daniel. The song was named the lead single to Thuy’s impending untitled project.

“Trust is something you build with another person. You spend time growing and learning each other, and somewhere along the way, the goal is to become two pieces of a greater whole,” Thuy expressed in a statement about the single. “‘Trust’ details the journey of nurturing love and growth, which can only happen when you let down your guard and open up.”

In May, Thuy reissued her debut EP I Hope U See This with five additional songs. One of them included “Inhibitions” featuring h P-Lo. She also recruited Destiny Rogers, DCMBR and Christian Kuria for its deluxe version.

Thuy recently wrapped two major shows, including Outside Lands Festival and Head in the Clouds Festival, both of which were in California.
