Brandy is a working woman. The legendary singer has been cast in the upcoming psychological thriller The Front Room, Variety reports.
Sibling duo Max and Sam Eggers will direct the A24-produced film, an adaptation of a short story taken from British author Susan Hill’s novel The Travelling Bag: And Other Ghostly Stories.
According to Variety, The Front Room will follow a young, expectant couple who assume caregiver roles for an unwell stepmother who has long been estranged from the family.
Brandy’s role has not yet been announced for The Front Room. She will appear in the movie alongside Kathryn Hunter, Andrew Burnap and Neal Huff. No other release details have been revealed at this time.
“God you’re Awesome!!!! I trust you with my entire life. Thank you for this amazing opportunity to work with this unbelievable cast, crew, and the studio everyone wants to work with and of course my Eggers fam🤞🏾♠️,” Brandy wrote on Instagram.
The Front Room is the latest acting role Brandy has signed on for this year. In March, she announced she’d star in Netflix’s new original holiday comedy, Best. Christmas. Ever. The Mary Lambert-directed film does not have a release date.
“Get ready for the Best Christmas Ever ♥️ I’m so excited to join this phenomenal cast for this special holiday film coming soon to @netflix,” Brandy wrote on Instagram.
Brandy previously featured in ABC’s Queens, which wrapped its first and only season in mid-February. Eve, Naturi Naughton, and Nadine Velazquez also starred in the hip-hop drama series.
Acting aside, Brandy is still focused on music. She recently shared an enchanting live performance of “Starting Now” as part of Disney’s World Princess Week 2022.
In June, Brandy inked a new partnership with Motown Records. She’ll release the follow-up to 2020’s b7 for the label, home of Ne-Yo, Erykah Badu and Kem.
In a 2022 interview with Rated R&B, Brandy said she wouldn’t be boxed into one sound for her eighth studio album. “I want to try different things with my music this next go-round, not just stick to R&B. I’m not just R&B, it’s more in my core. I want to bring it all out. Whatever else I have left, I just want to give it,” she explained.
Brandy is working on a continuation of her 2002 album Full Moon, which she announced following its 20th anniversary in March. It’s unclear if that has anything to do with her next album or if it’s a separate project. She did reveal that fans can expect “new performances, new vocals [and] new visuals.”
Excluding her solo music, Brandy’s lent her master vocals and songwriting to recent projects by Arin Ray and Nick Cannon. She even shared the stage with rising rapper Jack Harlow at the 2022 BET Awards, following her debut COLORS performance.
